Senior Nursery Practitioner
Job description
Senior Nursery Practitioner – £14.50 per hour | Small, Supportive Nursery | Career Progression & SENCO Opportunities
Our client, a welcoming and close-knit nursery, is looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Nursery Practitioner to join their team. This is a unique opportunity to work in a small nursery with a warm, single-room environment with a dedicated baby area, offering both stability and genuine career progression.
The nursery is especially keen to welcome someone eager to develop their skills towards a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) role, making this an ideal next step for a committed early years professional looking to grow their expertise.
What We’re Looking For
- Level 3 (or above) Early Years qualification – essential.
- Previous experience as a Senior Nursery Practitioner, Room Leader, or similar leadership role in an early years setting.
- Strong knowledge of the EYFS and best practice in early childhood education.
- A genuine passion for supporting children’s development in a nurturing environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Enthusiasm to develop SENCO expertise (previous SEN experience beneficial but not essential).
Why Join This Nursery?
- Competitive pay: £14.50 per hour (DOE).
- Flexible shift patterns:
- Option 1 – 5 days a week, 8:00–17:30
- Option 2 – 4 days a week (Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri), 8:00–17:30
- Small, friendly team where every child and staff member is valued.
- Low child-to-staff ratio – focus on quality interactions, not paperwork overload.
- Opportunities for funded training and career progression into SENCO responsibilities.
- Supportive, inclusive environment committed to staff wellbeing and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a small team to deliver outstanding early years care and education.
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate engaging activities aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
- Support children’s individual learning journeys, fostering both development and confidence.
- Build strong, positive relationships with children, parents, and carers.
- Maintain a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment for all children.
- Support the nursery’s SEN provision and take steps towards SENCO responsibilities.
- Ensure all safeguarding, health, and safety requirements are met at all times.
